Since December 1973, BMS has been extending free legal aid service to women facing violation of their rights at home or at their workplace. Lawyers and para legal trainers among BMS members provide counsel and if necessary, assist women in court procedures.
Seminars, workshops and round-table discussions are also organized on various family, women and child rights issues. Round-table meetings designed to raise awareness on women’s rights are also carried out in high schools and colleges in Dhaka and in other districts where BMS has branches. Colorful and eye-catching posters carrying slogans on gender issues are used for publicity purposes. Since 1981, BMS has been providing free legal aid services to the victims of domestic and workplace violence. BMS lawyers and members try to help the victim through counseling, mediation and if necessary, court procedure. In 2017, two seminars were organized, on “Evaluation of Women Empowerment through Research” and “Role of Bangladesh and Neighboring Countries in Women and Child Trafficking” respectively. Till 2022, around 11,000 (Ten thousand) clients have received free legal services from this project.
